Albino Support

Solidarity With People Experiencing Albinism

On 23rd July 2025 the following feature was posted on the #SOS WhatsApp chat by a participant from Tanzania.

Africa Albinism Network.
AAN condemns the murder of a 14-year-old girl with albinism in the Beira Province, Dondo District, Macharote in Mozambique. She was brutally murdered, her uterus and other organs were removed, and her body was thrown into the Macumbite River.

We urge the Government of Mozambique to continue implementing the National Action Plan on Albinism so people with albinism can enjoy access to their fundamental rights.

#SOS joins with the Africa Albinism Network, and a very many others, in utterly condemning such violation of human rights. We urge all African Governments throughout Africa to actualize the African Union Action Plan to protect people with albinism and bring the perpetrators of such atrocities to justice.

However, people experiencing albinism face barriers and persecution the world over with their Civil and Human Rights frequently ignored. #SOS echoes the call for governments around the world to develop and implement policies and practices to correct this situation.
