On the radio it was announced that the supportive money that is given by the government to old aged persons, disabled persons and orphans has been reduced in the next governmental financial year 2023/2024. These categories of people are the most vulnerable in the society, but still considered the least in being considered or being aided. This is how long and difficult the journey will be before everyone, starting with the families of disabled individuals, truly begins to take disability issues seriously, especially since institutions like schools, hospitals, churches, and others still fall short in addressing these challenges effectively. No matter the awareness raised, we need to pull & push the entire society into being responsible for every being. It may take centuries, but one fine day, things will take its cause & disability shaping will be realized.
A disabled person is not an ordinary person, but the life of a disabled person is a life of warfare.
If they truly reduce the funding it will be a big blow to those families. Social protection is a critical issue that the government need to look into and is obligated to provide for our constitution and the UNCRPD (United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities). We need to dig deeper and if indeed they are planning to do that, then we should carry out a vigorous campaign against its implementation.
