We have talked here so much about inclusive education and children with disabilities. Now about teachers with disabilities, we have a lady who was employed by the teachers service commission but was posted in a school that is in the hills and had no means of transportation. My group has already engaged the employer for her transfer. What makes me sad is that she had attached her disability card in the application card, which had clear indication that she has a physical disability. How they could go ahead and post her in such an inaccessible school is irritating!
I don't know what people are thinking when they post individuals in this way but at least the group's intervention may awaken the employer to do the right thing because maybe they thought that the disabled employee can do nothing or go nowhere without seeking assistance.
Here in the university where I work, we have a disability mainstreaming committee that intervenes for a disabled employee's matters. It consists of disabled persons and non-disabled persons. Remember there is nothing that can be done or fulfilled, without us (persons with disabilities) involved.
